lee case trimmer question

I am new to reloading and have started with some 9mm Luger. Apparently some folks don't worry about trimming these cases too much, but I am trying to start by following the manual to the letter.

I was attempting to trim some cases using the Lee handheld trimmer & lock stud unit. After resizing and decapping the shell, the length gauge will not fit all the way into the shell....it's too tight, and about 1/8" from reaching the trimmer blades. What's up?

I don't bother trimming handgun cartridges. Just rifle.

If the case is decapped...are you sure it's a 9mm trimmers and/or not a .380 brass?

The depth gauge that screws into the handle portion, and seats into the flash hole has 9mm inscribed on it.

Make sure your depth length ( the rod) is screwed all the way into the cutter. Sometimes they feel like they are down all the way, but are not.

Is it binding on the way down through the case mouth? Could try slightly expanding the case mouth after sizing. I need to do that with .30 Carbine or else the trimmer won't make it all the way down through some cases.

Yep. That's what is happeneing. You'd think that Lee would set up the trimmer so that it works right after the decaping die is used?

It should. Mine do. Sounds to me like you got a dud. I would contact Lee, I'm sure they would have no problem replacing it.
