Father's day gift recommendations

Hey guys,

My brothers and I are looking for recommendations for a father's day gift. He recently has gotten into Winchester rifle silhouette shooting and has rifles of several calibers. I know there are a couple of .30-30 and several others that I can't recall.

Anyway, he's starting to get into reloading and it was mentioned to us that he will need a tumbler and a powder scale. He'll be using my uncle's single stage reloading press and the volume will be fairly small. They probably only shoot about 50 rounds each match.

I am a casual shooter but no nothing about reloading. Could you recommend a good tumbler and powder scale to buy for this purpose? If I didn't provide enough info, let me know. If it's available on Amazon, that's a plus.

Both are fine, i have that tumbler myself and its served me well. Ive also had good experiences with the cheap electronic scales.

Maybe throw in some media and polish so he doesnt have to go to the store and buy stuff before he can tumble brass.

Dillon makes the best scales for the price. Both their beam and digital scales are top notch and a bargain IMO.

Pretty much any brand tumbler will work. Harbor freight has 'em for around $50. Dillon also makes a decent one and if you're ordering from them anyways you may want to pick one up as well.

+1 on this. I have a Dillon Electronic scale and 2 of their big huge tumblers. Also, I'm willing to bet, the big Dillons are quieter then the HF and FA ones.

Thanks for the replies. Regarding the scales, what does the Dillon $140 scale do that the cheaper electronic scale can't do? Is it an improved accuracy of the results? (I assume that's important).

I guess I'm trying to figure out if we're making a mistake by cheaping out on the scale.

**Remember, I am not a reloader nor will I attempt to reload any cartridge myself. ha ha.

I heard from Scott Parker that the Ohaus beam scales today are made in Mexico and of lesser quality. He said there's flaws with the Dillon version scale so he won't even tune those. I haven't verified this info and I'm not sure exactly why --- i'll ask next time I talk to him.

You should get him the frankford arsenal tumbling kit. It comes with the same tumbler as well as a rotary sifter, corn cob media, brass polish, and a bucket for sifting. Picked mine up from turners last thursday for 79 bucks. Took it home and had shiny brass within an hour.
