    Advice on a case trimmer

New to reloading and getting ready to start reloading .223. Before I start I need to get a case trimmer. Any recommendations?

I will be reloading mainly .223 and 7mm Remington Mag later on.

    Thanks.

    Is money an issue?

How much do you plan on reloading?

Giraud if money isn't a concern and you're going to reload a lot. Otherwise, forster has a good one. I have a hornady and it works out pretty well for a manual trimmer. I have a gracey as well, and while not as nice as a giraud, it trims just as quickly. A little harder to set up though.

How many rounds are you going to do? How often? How much $ do you want to spend? Are you going to reload were there's electricity close by? (I used to reload in a shed sans any power) Is your time a major issue?

I have a forster trimmer. I like it, cheap, easy to use, and with my cordless drill attached it's real quick.

If a year from now you find yourself spending hours triming brass, then buy a Giraud. I'm almost mad that I waited so long to buy one.

I just bought a a used Dillon 650 with case feeder. Money is a little short for right now, hoping not to spend more than $100 - $150 at most right now. I like shooting the two mentioned calibers. Probably shoot 2-300 a month on 223 and maybe 15-20 on the 7mm (depends on my shoulder .. haha). Electricity is not a issue. I will be setting up my work bench in the garage.

Given the low quantity you'll be shooting, I recommend a Lee trimmer. Can be had for about 10 bucks total and you can stick it on a power drill to go a litter faster. Nothing fancy.. it just simply gets the job done.

I started with the lee trimmer the "upgraded" to the rcbs power trimmer with the 3 way cutter, I love it compared to the lee. a little tricky to set up for me but once I got it straight it works great, I switch between 223,243 and 308 in minutes with no issues.

I have the RCBS Electric trimmer. I also use RCBS 3/way trimmers in .223/30 cal/ and 6.5X55 swedeThey trim, debur, and chamfur all at once. Saves a ton of time. The three way trimmers run about 35.00 a piece. Well worth the investment You will need to lube the shaft on the RCBS Electric trimmer. What I did was drill a hole down the bushing that holds the shaft and every now and then I put a little gun oil down it.

And I won't be laid a hand on.

just in case you didn't know, you can just buy the pilots for the 3 way trimmers for the different calibers, no need to purchase the complete unit for another caliber.

Thanks to everyone for your advice.

Question(s). Do you recommend with the amount of ammo I will be reloading should I get the manual or electric rcbs pro. I definitely like the 3 way cutters which do the trimming, deburing, and chamfuring all at the same time.

Any places to recommend buying everything? Anyone have any extras they would like to part with?

                          Thanks go all again.

I would get the Electric if you can afford it. Reason being if you start processing more brass your going to regret not doing that. Also buy from Midwayusa or some other firearms related place .Natchez, or Weidners.com
Midway comes out with a Special flyer every month. They have some really good deals. Remember to keep that shaft lubed. It will bind up and stop if you don't.
