    Lead-Free .22 LR?

Is there such a thing? I googled and searched for an hour and I came up empty handed. I dont want to have to kill rabbits with a .223 if I dont have to. Any thoughts?

The lead ammo ban only applies to centerfire cartridges for big game and coyotes. Rimfires with lead bullets will be legal for small game (just not coyotes).

Check the Fish and Game website, it says even .22 is not allowed. We still have until July 1st but I was wondering if it existed at all.

Here is the email I got back from DFG.

        Marc -

Your email was referred to me for response. Sorry about the delay in getting back to you; was out of the office most of last week and am just now getting back on top of things. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that your interpretation of the law is correct. The Fish and Game Commission recently adopted regulations that prohibit the use of all lead projectiles, including .22 caliber and smaller, while hunting within California condor range. More information, plus a map of where that lead prohibition is located, is available on-line at www.dfg.ca.gov/wildlife/hunting/condor/. If you have any other questions, please feel free to start with me - if I don't know the answer I'll find it or someone who does.

Acording to the new laws on lead free ammo, the way I understand it is I will be unable to hunt with a 22lr or my 250 savage since both are only available in solid lead or jacketed loads. Is this correct or am I miss reading something? I live in Kern county & hunt Carrizo Plains & up in the greenhorn mountains. Thank you in advance for your reply. Marc Abbott, Bakersfield Ca
