    Mountain Lion Defence Ammo?

Now that I have my CCW, I want to carry while hiking in Mountain Lion areas. I have 9mm Hellcat, 10 mm Glock 29, .357/ .38 spcl, or .40 S&W to choose from.

What caliber and type of bullet would you all recommend for Mountain Lion protection.

    I'm no big outdoorsman, but from your list I'll take the 10mm and some of these;

Hornady Backcountry Defense 10mm Auto 200gr DGH Handgun Ammo - 20 Rounds - In the remote wilderness, there is no 911, and yelling “Hey bear!” doesn’t always work. Stay at the top of the food chain – Hornady Backcountry Defense handgun ammunition. For those backcountry encounters when a reliable round can be a lifesaver, Hornady introduces Backcountry Defense ammunition. Featuring the DGH (Dangerous Game Handgun) bullet, providing maximum penetration and no deflection, Backcountry Defense delivers peace of mind from your favorite backcountry sidearm. Available in popular cartridges from 9mm up to 500 S&W.

but I really would prefer 458 socom

They aren't very tough. Use whatever you shoot best. A hit with a 9mm is way better than a miss with a 10mm.

Yup. Thin skinned kitties. They also have no fear and don’t know what pain is. They don’t want to fight.

          I've Shot antelope with a Glock 23 - tried 165 and 180 grain JHP

Both flew through the 110 pound goat... breaks ribs on both sides...

While Kitties might be 150-200 pounds, any JHP that will absolutely run reliably in your gun will be fine.

Kitties don't have the heavy bones of a Boar nor bear. You don't need to penetrate a big shoulder bone to reach kitties heart.

Most Kitties hide - attack / pounce from the rear. So it might be something to shoot the kitty while they are eating your friend.

rarely will they charge as they have young nearby

Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

9mm with high capacity so you still have more shots when you miss it (they’re fast).

My 10mm is for Grizzlies, my .45 for black bears.

22 LR. Shoot your hiking partner in the knee and then run away.
