    Time to start reloading

    Hi

Boy, so I buy my first 1911, a Kimber Custom TLE/RL II, it works great and I want to send many thousands of rounds down range. I like 185 grn rounds but it is tough to find them, so I guess I need to make them.
I am thinking about getting a Lee progressive turret, sonic tumbler and start making my ammo :-( damn I need a bench also. Oh well

A couple of 2X4's and a solid top makes a good bench.

Sooner you get into it, the better you will be. Ammo prices are still going up with no end in sight. Even reloading components are going way up as well.

Plan it out well before you buy anything.

I would not begin with a progressive. I would begin with a single stage press because that way you learn each step in the process one step at a time. What I would do is get an automatic powder dispenser like the RCBS or the Hornady which makes reloading so much easier. Good luck and welcome to the wonderful world of reloading.

There are lots of threads within the past handfull of pages on this very topic. Read them all!
A good starting point is watching lots of youtube videos on different presses. This guy has some OK videos www.ultimatereloader.com
Depending how much research you do you can start on either a single stage, turret, or progressive. I personally spent a lot of time doing research and I started on a Dillon xl650 with having never seen a reloading press before. It's a fairly simple process once you get the concept down on how everything works.
There's also lots of cool people here that can probably show you in person how it's done.

I just recently decided to start reloading too and I ordered the Hornady lock n load classic reloading kit. And don't worry about the bench, me and my friend (llraptorll here on calguns) put it together with some 2x4's and some pine wood all for around $50. Here it is

The Lee turret(s) are not progressive. They have an auto index that moves the dies around automatically, but it take 3-4 pulls of the handle to make a round.

A progressive makes a round for every pull of the lever after you get the shellplate fully loaded.

The Lee Classic Turret is the perfect first press for a 1911 guy. Skip the ultrasonic cleaner (if that is what you meant), just get a media tumbler and some crushed walnut shells or corn cob.

When you get to loading 200gr LSWC's then you will be a real 1911 guy.

                Have fun, good luck.

I love Lee stuff and i think its perfect for your first press. Its a hobby in and of itself and a very rewarding one at that, especially if you shoot alot.

I dont think ammo will get any cheaper so it couldnt possibly hurt to get started as soon as possible

                      Look good.
When you mount the press, I would bolt through the press, top, then a 2x on the bottom. That 1x top will last longer.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

200gr SWC over 4.6gr of W231 is the most awsome 1911 round ever. It took my shooting from this:

Grafs has the kit in stock. They also have the 9mm and .45 acp dies in stock. $5 shipping for the order.

Actually, check Gander Mountain for the dies. Last I looked they were 39.99 and free shipping for the Lee deluxe pistol 4-die sets.
