    Swagging issues

    Down and dirty......

Swagging is a giant PITA! (Dillon 600)

The crimp is never exactly concentric to the primer pocket.
When you go to swag, the crimp side farthest away from the pocket swages first and the crimp side closest to the pocket swages last leaving a non concentric swag. The non concentric swag causes the primer to catch while priming and fold one corner over as the case is primed.

If you swag more to get the non concentric side swaged all the way then the primer pocket is loose and you could have primers blowing out into your gun and ruined brass.

The fine line between not enough swag and too much is razor thin. One adjustment and the primer lip catches on the sharp edge of the crimped side and another fine adjustment and the primer falls into the pocket loosely.

There has got to be a better way! Faster and better to be exact. One at a time sucks.

I do my 06 & 308 with a herter unit that is at least 50 years old -- yes, it is one at a time but they all turn out right.
Since you only have to swage them once, I don't see the problem.

I gave up on swaging the pockets. I use a countersink to "very lightly" chamfer out the swaged area, being carefull not to hog out the opening. Once in a while one gets opened up too much, so I toss it.
