I’m going to try my hand at making small groups far away. These are the 2 rifles I’m working with
IMG_0627.jpg
the black one is a U15 stock on an AR15 receiver with a 24” DPMS BBL upper I got in a group buy on calguns about 20 years ago. It has no FA or ejection port cover and a RRA 1 stage NM trigger… which a friend went at with a Dremal while I was at work and now needs to be replaced
. It’s a 1”9 barrel and has a super sniper scope (also calguns group buy) fixed 10X
the wood one is a Remington 700VLS with a 1:11 barrel and a really shanzzy bushnell scope Other than that, it’s bone stock.
I don’t know why I wrote 6 (June) on the target but it was actually sunday. Wind was so heavy that I had to use drywall screws and fender washers to prevent the cardboard from being blown off the sticks. We shot at 50 yards in that wind
I was just trying to see how different loads worked in each gun. 52 bergers worked great in the 700 and my old 68 A-Max loads worked great in the AR and great success, I cooked up some 60 grain Vmax rounds, which performed very well int the 1:11 700. The thing to note is just how wonderfully the 68 grain SMK’s worked int the 24” 1:9 barrel and how horrible the were in the 26” 1:11 gun (which is exactly what I had expected. They are the triangle holes.

Imprint from the fender washer used to hold the cardboard to the sticks and 2 of the “triangle” holes from the 68 SMK’s in 1:11

take away, and I’m digging deeper into this, but 1:9-1:7 barrels are going to perform well with just about any ammo commercially available but when you gat to the slower twist rates, you really need to pay attention to what you are feeding it,
