    .35 Remington...Anybody Roll Their Own

Hi there fellow hangin on by a thread gunners,

I just put a ,35 Remington M81 in Kali jail. The caliber is physically new to me but not by legend. I know it was a great Kali deer cartridge out to a hunnerd yards and that Levereverlution is available in .35. I've shot .30 Rem but no kills. So what's the skinny on the round. It'll strictly be a range toy using 200gr Core Lockt, the only I've been able to locate. What say ye, PAX.

Not yet, I have a Lyman All American 4 station turret and dies for all the primary calibers I need. About 12 or so, but I still have a few K of everything bought cheap long ago, which is why I haven't started to reload. Additionally, about 10 years ago, there was a local guy who had an ammo manufacturerIng license, he would assemble match grade ammo in the usual calibers. He had part of a gun shop cordoned off. He would build custom stuff on request. I had him build a mess of .41 mag for me (as he located the hard-to-get brass). He also gave seminars when he got enough folks interested, 3-5. As part of the instruction fee, he would walk a student through building 100 rounds. By the time I got the time to give it a go, the shop owner retired. PAX

I have reloaded for 30 Remington, for my Remington Model 14. I have sent sold the rifle but I kept the brass and dies in case I come across another one that I just have to have.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

That was me with this .35 M81 I stumbled across. I sold an SKS for the cost of the Remington. I'd had the SKS for decades that I picked up when they were considered cheap Chinese. I bought everyone that crossed my path. They all turned into great trade fodder. PAX

Does it have to be 200 grain? How's about 180 grainers from a .357 Manum over 38ish grains of H335 kinda put you at round 2300 fps+/-.

No 180gr is prolly just fine. better even, it'll never be for game getting, deer or pig, since that would require bimetal for Kali, it'll be paper killing ammo. I've got .308 to hunt with but I haven't been in the field for a long time, or the range either for that matter. PAX

I hear you about not being able to hunt or have range time echo, sometimes life gets in it's own way.

Indeed it does. Even quit wrenching/building on cars. Fortunately, I've been fairly steady with my acquiring and weapons building with the time available. Plus, since 2018-19 I started to sell off a few guns for the first time in 50 years, SKS rifles mostly (20 units). I took advantage of the buying frenzy to focus on more collectable guns. It was sorta ironic in that as X39 got pricy, fellas across the country with a "one of" SKS, say a Russian, were letting their iron go for what they paid years ago, it worked out in the long run. All the ammo I collected over the decades and didn't shoot has become quite an asset as well. PAX

I too have a Russian SKS. IIRC paid $175 for it. When I got it the wife asked me if I planned to take it out soon after acquiring it, I said naw this one is for looking at. I immediately got a Chinese 'beater'. This happened in the early '80s. BTW, I have a a .35 Remington in a TC Contender with a 14"barrel. Sent maybe around 10 rounds down the barrel.

Bullet diameter of 357 pistol bullets is often smaller than 35 caliber rifle bullets unless you are talking cast bullets.
Also, stubby pistol bullets sometimes don't feed corectly.
It's better to stay with proper lever rifle bullets that are more conical so they will feed more reliably.

OP, forgive me...I'm just stupid. Ignore everything I said about the 180 grain .357 bullets. Don't, I repeat...don't use cast bullets or stubby bullets...you will blow yourself up. Just stick to 200 grain Core Lockt and don't ever think of reloading either. Sorry to confuse the internet.
