How clean do you need to get the inside of your brass before reloading? I've tried a few methods to clean the brass and still the inside doesn't look that clean to me.

how clean?

I have never thought about, much less gotten too excited about, the INSIDE of the brass, myself. Of the myriad of things to concern yourself over in our quest for accuracy and reliability, this has to be past the last one on the list. Forget it.Comment

Before i started using the stainless media I used a case neck brush for my target ammo . A couple of passes in and out and i felt better about my loads , I cant say for sure that it really does anthing but I think all the little things that by themselves dont seem to matter much add up to a differenceComment

Thanks for the answers. I'm new to reloading and just really didnt have any idea if i needed to worry about the inside.Comment

Unless you are loading long range precision rifle ammo where case capacity matters it doesn't matter.
I still run everything through stainless just because
1. I try to make the most consistent ammo I can
2. I am am a little OCD
3. I have a stainless tumbler so why not use itI will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.Comment

As long as you can see the primer hole, you're fine.
Seriously though as long as the outside is clean enough to function the inside is clean enough. I probably tumble pistol brass about one out of ten reloads.
Even my match rifle ammunition only gets tumbled about every three reloads.Frank

what about your African ammo?

If you use a tumbler, can you go straight from 'dirty' ammo to the resizing step?
Or do you lube them in between?

straight wall pistol brass with carbide dies, yes.
Lube all bottle neck cases carbide dies or not.GCC

Got it. Thanks.
I plan to read up on reloading before I even try and get in to it, just curious for now

I don't use SS, but if I did, I would use my universal decapper to pull them all before the SS bath. Then out of the SS bath and straight to size, prime, charge, etc....Comment
