    What gives?

Bought some Winchester shotshells recently. Instead of giving the payload weight in ounces, it was expressed in grams. They were marketed as 'less noise/recoil'. Also interesting is they slower and there is an advertisement on the bottom of the box that made might not cycle semiautomatics, should be used in break open or pumps. Never seen something like this before.

Didn't Winchester or Federal market "Lite" target loads a decade ago? Low recoil for all day skeet sessions?

A lot of international shotgun competitions like Olympic trap or skeet use shotshells with no more than 24grams of shot.
If you start looking for shotshells in gram weights, you will find 24, 28 and 32 being offered in 12ga.
That makes these outliers of the norm.

Maybe, I wasn't into trap shooting then (still not really now either). I bought some Alliant 'Extra Lite' to see how it would work. Most data show stuff for AA hulls so I went with these.

Yes, Winchester did. I believe that they were called Feather Lites and had a feather emblem on the shell case itself.
They also manufactured a Lite Powder, which was to duplicate that load.
It was actually good powder that produced a very light recoil with 1 ounce shot loads. I just ran out of that powder and of course, it's no longer made.

I bought some 'Extra Lite' and thought I'd give it a try. Can't find any data to replicate the factory load in the shells I took the picture of though. What made me scratch my head was the 26 gram shot payload (.92 oz.).

A 24 Gram load equals 7/8 ths oz. 28 grams is a 1 oz. load. 32 grams is a 1-1/8 oz load and a 36 gram load is a 1-1/4 oz. load. Grams are commonly used in Europe rather than ounces.

I wonder if your ammo is a European overrun lot.
