Any use for Corrosive 7.62x51 ?

I have 150 rounds of what i believe to be corrosive 7.62x51 a coworker gave me, he mentioned it came out of a battle pack that his deceased father-in-law had with his M1A tanker.
is there any use of these rounds? I have a gas gun and flushing the system after every range day wouldnt be very practical.

Post the head stamp & pic of a cartridge.

I don't associate.308 / 7.62 x51 as a newer round and most is non corrosive. Not all but most.

is it American made or overseas?

Pre 80’s Czech ammo is more than likely going to be corrosive. I’ve shot a bunch of both ammo types pictured above and can say that the ammo with the red laquer around the primer and double O stamp is not corrosive. I still have a decent stash of the blackened primer stuff which is definitely corrosive. It’s good stuff for punching holes through mild steel as it has a steel insert.

                ZV - Czech is corrosive.

you don't have the 00 red headstamp

photo I posted below is of the OO

im not sure who made the 7.62x51mm headstamp as no manufacturer plant is listed.

Red sealant with 3 stakes makes me guess eastern block sanitized ammo.

id sell the ammo if you don't want to deal
                  with corrosive.

you can shoot 1-3 of the red and look at the smoke and smell the smoke as both can help determine if corrosive

but if corrosive- you get to do the deeper wash for the corrosive salts.

OP, I wrote too quick while looking at the ammo I had on hand and naturally figured the double Was there. None the less don’t be afraid to shoot corrosive ammo as most AK owners clean their guns after shooting corrosive AK ammo. Same as 762x54r ammo, unless you’re unfamiliar with corrosive ammo. Just clean your guns after shooting. Corrosive ammo becomes worrisome after shooting in humid environments where the salts absorb moisture and start to corrode metal. If you’re in socal it will be very minimal during the hotter months but simply cleaning will absolve any worry’s

I would be shooting the 7.62x51 out of a direct impingement gun, cleaning the gas would require me to basically disassemble the entire upper and submerge it in water since the salts are water soluble.
i think thats the only thing i miss about an ak, with the flip of a lever you have the gas tube in your hand.

French corrosive 308 win made in the early 80’s was available a number of years ago.

The OO head stamp appears to be S&B military surplus ammo that is noted corrosive. A Google search shows the cartridge and box.

I agree with the OP, would not shoot out of a semi auto, especially an M1A, too much to clean.
The only thing that is worse than an idiot, is someone who argues with one.

Plan on shooting it all up in one session, do a probably-already-needed deep clean on the rifle, and move on. Easier than selling or anything else.
