Whichever one has the remote display. It's so nice to have the display close at hand when the sensors are downrange. (Now I see they both are the "Master" series and both have the remote display.)
I've got the Green F-1 Master and I like it, but I guess the Alpha has a larger memory? I don't really know the exact difference, but when I use mine I have a piece of paper and a pen to write down averages so it's not a big deal.

If you plan on justing using it for rifles, I would go with the Magneto Speed. I got one and it works great and is just as accurate as my CED.

^^^ This is the best alternative. Unfortunately the Magneto Speed is on back order. I have one on order for an expected June delivery. Even then it costs $250. Sorry, I can't provide any recommendation for the Chrony product, as both my chronographs are Oehler that cost a shade under $600 (the Model 35P is actually two chronographs in one that proves results between them).

Research the Chrony line and try to get one with statistical analysis: Hi, Low and Average Velocity, Extreme Spread and Standard Deviation. Some offer multiple string capability - good. You'll want the remote unit and printer. It's helpful to have memory capability and PC interface if you envision becoming a serious experimenter. Actually, the Beta Master had the better features for my use when I checked awhile ago.

Not looking to seriously experiment, just trying to see where I am at with a bunch of loads and play around with some high velocity stuff for fun. I thought about the printer but for me its an unnecessary expense. I can write it down and then dump it into exel and have it run any equation I want to get loads of data...

If it's for both rifle and pistol, I would get a CED M2. Bryan Litz says it's enough for his testing.

I say get another brand. I paid $100 for my Shooting Chrony and while it worked, it leaves a lot to be desired on the table. The month after I got my Shooting Chrony, I bought another chronograph. The SC is too sensitive to different ranges of shade and light. The only thing that I liked about it is that it's very compact. I used mine for 1 range trip and bought another brand right after and ever since then, it's been sitting in a box in my living room for the past year.

If it still works, I will give you $50 for that used pos.
