    Federal Top Gun Target

Are they what's classified as an HOA hull?

    AI says no.
Then there is this more detailed discussion:
Was looking at the newer plastic base wad Top Gun Hull and a Federal Game hull with plastic base wad. Is there any difference beside the printing on the hulls?

Thank you. Was going to go trap shooting so I bought a case of Top Gun. Thinking I'd slice a fat hog in the azz and reload the hulls. Guess I'll have to buy some used ones if I want to pursue this.

^^^^Thanks, I can't find any reliable data specific to these hulls. I meant other brands to get some once fired hulls.

Federal does not consider them to be reloadable so there really is no published data.
Often, they are Rio or Cheddite hulls though.
You have to sort them by what type of base wad they have.
Generally, you cross section one and compare it to a bunch of other hulls with known data and then use the data from the best matching hull.
Start on the low end and chrono the load to see how it compares to published data.

Some more good discussion on these hulls here:
Per a conversation today September 28, 2021, with Hodgdon reloading person ... 1) There are up to 4 different base-wads used in Top Guns 2) These base-wads have different volumes 3) You never know what you got 4) Federal keeps the same wads and adjusts the stack height with different base-wads...

I was looking at the Alliant offer of E cubed. Says it's cleaner burning and more efficient, any one use it?

That's only going to be for the paper basewad hulls.
There are several different top gun hulls with plastic basewads of different heights than the paper basewads so be sure of exactly what you are using.

Thanks for clarifying this Randall. That's the vibe I was getting by your earlier post on this matter and other posts. Seems like a lot of effort and it's too easy to get hulls mixed up (at least by me). I'll just pick up some Winchester AAs. Plenty of data for those.

FYI The GreenDot load info works perfect with the Top Gun Hulls with plastic base wads. Probably have shot upwards of 5000 rounds of that load.

                        Hulls that I reload.

                        Winchester AA (Red & Gray)

Remington (Bottom Row Left to Right) - American Clay and Field, Peters (Blue Magic), Gun Club, Nitro and STS.

For skeet, I often use 7/8 oz reloads (but not in a semi-auto).

Thanks Bob. I had a reloading hand book, but don't know what happened to it (probably got in the wife's way). I'll have to clean up my 'gun room' and organize.
