    Magtech Primers

I'm seeing Magtech primers pop up at about $0.05 each https://www.brownells.com/reloading/...istol-primers/ I hadn't really seen them until now. Anyone have any experience with them? Are they new to market or?

They aren't a new maker, they've been making in the Brazil for a long time for Magtech ammo. The story I heard was they are made on old Remington equipment, I don't know if it that's true or not.

I have a box but haven't used them yet. I know a few cowboys that have been using them with no problems in low pressure cowboy loads.

Yep, I've used a few thousand Magtech primers in the past. They worked just fine.

Also used a fair amount of Magtech factory ammo (9mm). Also worked very well. I assume the same primers sold to reloaders are also used in their factory ammo.

Large pistol primers work well in my 1911.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

Good to see primers becoming available and at better prices. Some reloaders may prefer to stick with American made such as CCI, Win and Fed, but Winchester has had a few runs of primers failing/piercing in the past. Still, I hope that they come down to reasonable prices too.

All companies have had a run or two of bad ones. It happens; nothing's perfect. That's what recall announcements are for.

I don't mind using foreign-made primers, as long as they're not from an adversary (e. g. Red China). While the Russians were still our friends (this is pre-Putin, obviously), I used plenty of Russian primers made at their Murom factory (Wolf/Tulammo brand and such). They worked very well, indeed. I think I had two fail out of I-don't-know-how-many-thousands. Hey, they were $15/1000 at the time. :-)

The Magtech primers, I haven't used *quite* as many as the Russian primers, but it's been a good amount. I had no failures. Fiocchi, no failures yet, but I haven't used more than a few thousand of those.

CCI, I think I had one fail on me. And CCI is a good, USA-made brand.

Given how many SPP's I go through shooting .38 Special, that really ain't a bad record for any of the companies. So, sure, give the Magtechs a whirl. Brazil's pretty friendly with us.
