I've seen a few posts about how this round as factory ammo from Lehigh or Underwood doesn't feed reliably in the tomcat. I ordered some bullets and loaded some up with Universal in new Starline cases. I only put 14 rounds downrange but so far so good. I'll load up and shoot the other 30 (and shoot the other 6 I loaded up originally) and see how they run.
I'm wondering if anyone here has used the factory loaded 50 grain Extreme Cavitator that is available from Lehigh and (was) available at Underwood. I'm seating and crimping with the Lee seating/crimping die (not the factory crimp die), enough to round to take out the flair and a bit more.
Now 14 rounds isn't enough to say it's 100% reliable, I know that, but from other accounts other people seem to be having issues right off the bat. I'm wondering if that slight bit of crimp is the magic to keep the round from getting hung up or am I just lucky?
