Long story short, don't buy ammo head stamped Probjeda (don't know where it's from). Had to use my Blackhawk convertible to fire it. Didn't buy it, my son's friend did. Jammed his semi automatic repeatedly. Sorry for the bad picture quality. There's a ring or shelf in the interior. I'll try to take another (if this whacked site will let me post it).

I've never shot those "stepped cases" 9mm, but I have picked up a bunch of that brass by accident and they jam my progressive press every time. Plenty on the floor at On Target in Laguna Niguel. They sell Maxx ammo as their house brand.
I'll keep an eye out since my son and his friends buy the cheap stuff. The pic looks like steel? Or is it nickle plate brass?Last edited by smoothy8500; 10-16-2024, 3:30 PM. -
Not sure what the casings are made of. I may drag a file or a magnet across one and see what comes of it. You're correct in the view that they were probably bought because of price not value. He bought about ten years ago so I don't know where he bought it.I've never shot those "stepped cases" 9mm, but I have picked up a bunch of that brass by accident and they jam my progressive press every time. Well, I ran a magnet across one. It's ferrous alright. The appearance is that of nickel, probably applied for lubricity. I'm going to lgs and see if he's heard/familiar with them.Comment

Well I went to my lgs. He said the reason for the shelf is to boost pressure so that less powder can be used. I guess it makes sense if large quantities are being made, the savings add up. Probably a military contract so then there's that.Comment
