    Plated or coated ?

My concern is lead fouling. I run a Rossi 92 w/ 20" barrel using a 158gr rnfp at 1700 fps using Win 296 (yeah, I kno, HOT) . I can reduce some but not less that 1600. Most of the bullets I'm finding recommend speeds lower than that. I could use a recommendation on something that reduce my fouling concerns. Thanks

I think Berry's makes a plated that's rated for 1850. Not sure if its double plated or what. I was looking at them on midways site the other day. No crimp band though. It was in the description
Most of the plated I've seen say 1250.

I would use a jacketed bullet. I had a Winchester Model 94 in 44 Magnum and I ran Speer 240 grain JSP over 2400 and CCI Magnum Primers.

I've shot hi-tek coated bullets at 1750+, there was leading. 1600 is probably about max for the hi-tek coating IMO.

I use jacketed to avoid fouling. My experience has been that the coated bullets leave their coating behind. I haven't tried gas-checked lead bullets, but want to.

I don't think you're going to find a plated, let alone coated, bullet capable of those speeds without fouling. Even Berry's 357 Sig and 38 Super are only 1500 fps. You just need to accept that if you want that speed, you need to buy jacketed projectiles.

Admittedly, at lower velocities, coated bullets are the bees knees so far as I'm concerned.

I've had great luck with Missouri Bullet Company, Chey Cast, and (local to California so where I source most of my bullets, plus he comes to the shoots I attend saving us both on shipping) Bear Creek Supply.

Loaded with smokeless you're good to go. Loaded with APP or Shooters World Black, also good to go. I haven't tried loading with real black, but suspect you'd need a lube cookie or a lubed wad under the bullet.
