I have about 500 rounds of this 9mm that my dad bought in the '60's. It's been in dry storage since purchase. Is it worth keeping as a collector item or should I just go ahead and use it in my S&W 6906? Thanks.

Sub-gun ammo is hotter than "normal" ammo and even hotter than +p+! I suggest shooting it ONLY in guns that are DESIGNED to fire it. It's not worth risking your gun or your safety!NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

Don't shoot these from a pistol. If you have a 9mm carbine you should be fine.Mo' BBs.Comment

Thanks for the advice guys. I sort of figured that these might be hot rounds and wouldn't be good for the health of a pistol. I guess I'll need to find a 9mm carbine to use them up.Comment

I have fired some 9mm "Carbine" and "SMG" ammo out of pistols with mixed results. It's not so much that it is loaded hot, but that it typically has really hard primers capable of causing misfires in pistols. It's almost like it was meant to be fired from open bolt guns having really heavy bolts with a firing pin fixed to the end of it. On the bright side, some people have to have it, so it should be easy to sell or trade for more versatile ball ammo.Comment
