Reloading supplies - bring by driving into California

If I driving into Nevada and purchase primers and power (hazmat reloading supplies) drive back into California, is that considered illegal with regards to the California laws?

Nope, or it would probably be better to say, "Not yet."

unfortunately, until SCOTUS drops a bag of hammers on the liberal appeals courts, your statements is a look unto the near future.

While there is no law (penal code) regarding the importation of components, there are transportation regulations on the volume (weight) of both smokeless black power you can transport before safety precautions and signage have to happen. DOT regs and fire code are where those regs are, I believe. I haven't searched lately for them. They used to be listed in the wiki, so if it got saved somewhere.

            Hope this helps

This is exactly why I keep suggesting to Californians who enjoy marksmanship that they consider reloading. None of that nanny-state "mommy, may I, pleeeze?" nonsense to go through like when you buy ammo.

Californians, roll your own. Get a nice turret press and learn how to use it.

To be a true Liberal, you must be 100% pro-Second Amendment. Anything less is inconsistent with liberalism.

Quantities, in shipping containers approved by the U.S.D.O.T., of not more than twenty (20) pounds of smokeless powder or not more than five (5) pounds of black sporting powder (or any combination thereof) may be transported in a private passenger vehicle without a permit.

MagazineWhen Required. Quantities in excess of twenty (20) pounds (but not exceeding fifty (50) pounds) of smokeless powder, or not more than five (5) pounds of black sporting powder (or any combination thereof) may be transported in a private passenger vehicle when approved by the "Chief" having jurisdiction, provided however, that such powder shall be transported in separate portable magazines having wooden walls of at least one (1) inch nominal thickness.

Transportation of quantities in excess of fifty (50) pounds of smokeless powder or five (5) pounds of black sporting powder is prohibited in a private passenger vehicle.
Just some of the rules. There are Vehicle, H&S, Business code sections too in CA. Web search will be informative in each area.

But nothing about the actual import of the items that I am aware of.

If I recall correctly, you are more of a libertarian than a liberal. Still short of being a genuine redneck conservative like many of us! But you are correct, nothing better than rolling your own ammo.

Ha! Oh, I'm a Liberal, through and through, which is why I'm totally pro-2A. What I'm not is a Democrat.

Everyone, since it appears to be legal at this time for you to bring components into California, I would stack 'em deep and load up your trunk to whatever's legal to do. And then get to pulling that handle and crankin' out some practice ammo. Indeed, if you have friends who travel to Freer America, see if you can get them to pick up some stuff for you as they're coming home.

The online deals with sales and coupons have been better than I've seen in any store since before Covid. Free hazmat and shipping sometimes. Buy 8lbs of powder at a time for better prices. Bullets are the same. Sometimes you get great deals when you buy a few thousand at a time. I bought more than 30,000 primers before Covid, but am still finding bundles and deals online. I buy about 6,000 SPP primers a year, averaging $60 per thousand. It's not the $35 we used to pay for Federal Gold match, but better than any of my locals and cheaper than gas and lodging on a trip to Nevada. I've been buying blocks of Fiocchi for good deals when the sales are on. Winchester and Federal primers are sadly $70 and up. I've had rare but lucky buys from estate sales and people getting out of reloading.

Do I use the Dillon 550, 650, or 1050 and mr. Bulletfeeder to make CCI Standard Velocity ammo?

Years ago, I used to order the max for a single package from powder valley and others because I roll my own. If only I could load up accurate and consistent ammo for rimfire the same way. Primers were around $110 per thousand last time I looked, at least a few months ago. So, if they are around 60 to 70 dollars per box, it has improved.
