    WA to CA

I'll be moving to Southern California (951-714) within the next couple months and I'm wondering what I should stock up on before I move. I cast and reload for most .30-32 cal C&R rifles and I plan on doing the same for 9mm, .40S&W, and .45ACP. I have a few hundred pounds of lead but I'm always on the look out for a good source. I'm more concerned about primers and powder as I usually pick up primers for 2.5-3.5 cents a piece and powder for 20-30 dollars a pound depending on type.

Just read up on the insane gun laws we have and learn the flow charts. Welcome to Calguns. Prices on primers and powders sound the same as here.
With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.

What should you stock up on? Common sense. You won't find much here in California, especially the laws

The prices for primers is about the same here as in WA, $30/1000.
Powder is anywhere from $18-$24/pound, less if you buy 8 pound jugs.
If you have a source for wheel weights, stock up. You won't find any here anymore. Figure on getting lead for about $1/lb for range lead or mail order. You can still find tons of it for free if you can score on medical building refurb or get friendly with a roof demolisher.

The smart thing is to buy up as much as you can on your trip through Oregon where they don't charge sales tax.

Otherwise, mail order is the same here as it is in WA as long as you aren't in a prohibited area. Check the local ordnances.

Since it looks like you're shooting semi-autos, also remember that it's illegal to bring in what CA calls "high capacity" magazines, unless they were there before the ban. "High capacity" in CA means more than 10 rounds. Washington State doesn't have that ridiculous limitation, so be aware of it.

My advice is to purchase any handguns that you would like to own before you move here. You can bring them in provided they are in a legal configuration. Once you're here, you're stuck with the safe gun roster. You'll need to register your handguns with the DOJ once you're here.

It's a felony for you to import any "Large Capacity Feeding Devices" into the state. That covers magazines of more than 10 round capacity. You can't have a threaded barrel on a semi-auto. California also bans the Taurus Judge and similar weapons as short-barreled shotguns. California also bans armor piercing handgun ammunition.

I would not be too concerned about your reloading components, they're pretty much available.

Lead is a problem in the Republik of Kommiefonia. Lead wheel weights are banned. Use of lead ammo is banned in a hugh part of CA in the designated Condor areas.

Reloading supplies are available but, very limited. San Diego stores are VERY limited in what they carry. Fire Marshall limits powder to about 20 lbs per store. Only way to get powder in 8 lb canisters is to MAIL ORDER. Some stores won't ship to San Francisco and LA

Thanks for all of the info. I'm aware of most of the laws and I'm still doing my research. I'm in the process of getting my C&R transffered among other things. My main concern was finding reloading supplies and places to shoot.

Also, I'm looking to do IDPA/USPSA unofficial/practice type events/matches. I'm not looking to compete, just somewhere to practice that type of shooting. Also interested in shooting cast bullets from mil surp.

if you already have a C&R then you should be getting dealer pricing at some well known places that sell reloading supplies...Brownells, midway, Graf&Sons (my favorite)
Unless you only buy a pound or two at a time then you can save money... buy mail order.
Some people talk about it and some people do it.
