Anyone Know What's Going On With RCBS Case Lube?

I've been trying for a couple of months to get my hands on some RCBS Case Lube 2.

I haven't broken down and ordered it directly from RCBS - yet. However, the local shops claim they can't get it. Cabela's says it's not available online. Sportsman's hasn't had any in... 'forever.' The only listing I'm seeing on Amazon is for over twice the MSRP.

I'm about out and am going to need to replenish soon.

Is there something special about that stuff? I've been using Hornady One Shot. I have also used Dillon Synthetic and made my own with Lanolin and HEET red label which dissolves lanolin better than pure alcohol.

I've been using it for roughly 40 years.

Nothing special. It's just that old dogs, new tricks thing.

(1) Swap all steel Size dies with carbine Size dies, then you don't need lubricant.

I know of no carbide dies for bottle-necked cases. Straight wall cases - yes, the only way to go.

Bottle-neck case dies require lube.

You can order the 3 items needed from Amazon to make it youself.
Imperial die wax is the absolute best though.

If you need some I have most of a bottle left. I can send it to you for free. I use one-shot or my own concoction.

Not always true. It is absolutely needed on my Dillion SDB. Without case lube on the INSIDE of the cases, the mouth expander die (powder funnel) (stage 2) galls on the case. It can take substantial force on the upstroke when you get t his galling. I have felt this same thing on my single stage press with whatever brand dies I use but maybe not as severe. You can feel the die catching on the way up. Case lube eliminates this issue. Dillon says in their manual to use case lube even with carbide dies. The galling is especially bad on new brass or very clean (wet tumbled) brass. Uncleaned brass has a carbon film on the inside that reduces the galling and dry tumbled brass has a layer of dust that can reduce the galling.

I talked with the owner of a 'local' shop this afternoon and he claims his wholesaler now has some in stock and that he should have some in 'about a week.'

We'll see.

That does not work for rifle cartridges with tapered bodies and shoulders.
You still have to lube full-length carbide dies for shouldered rifle cases.

This what I use for all my rifle brass sizing, I mix my own; 10 parts - 99% isopropyl alcohol to 1 part lanolin. For pistol, even with carbide dies, a shot of Hornady One-Shot with brass in a Zip-Lock bag, makes it easier on the pull.

Try to find it in this part of the State.

Try to find it where I typically shop online (and Amazon isn't one of them).

Try to find it through a couple of local FFL's wholesalers.

On top of that, I didn't say 'scarce.' I said it seemed to be 'in short supply.'

Well, hodgdon did recently purchase RCBS so maybe that has something to do with the short supply.
