Ammo shortage!!! Stock up guys (223/556)

Checked 3 wal-mart store (Durate, Azusa, Upland) all the 223/556 were OUT, even my LGS is out of the 223/556. Was able to score some online, but hey, what's going on here, I think primers are flying off the shelf too.

Election year? Summer peak? brass shortage? what's causing all this?

I haven't seen any difference. The walmarts around here are always out of that stuff because they order it two boxes at a time

Word to the wise, take everything a LGS tells u with a grain of sand. That would "justify" them jacking up their prices when they do have some. There's a local guy around here who loves creating panic so he can go to the local Wally's and buy up all the ammo, and sell it for a %200 markup. It may sound strange and false, but it is true and real.

Once again, another election year is approaching. I learned early on to jump on the reloading wagon, And have not purchased factory ammo in over 3 years. My Dillon 550 has been the best investment since taking this hobby seriously. Trust me, The only thing I will be feeling is joy, Amongst all the panic.

Ever election year is the same thing. The gun and ammo manufacturers look forward to it like normal stores look forward to Christmas.

There will without a doubt be an ammo and primer shortage in the upcoming months. Things like this post will help fuel the fire. So will LGS's. If I owned one I'd help spred it as well. It's a business tactic. It's easy money for them.

If you already don't have enough ammo to get you at least through the next election be prepared to pay more and wait longer or not shoot as much.

The alternative is to buy a reloading press, 20k primers, a keg of powder, and enjoy life

That's a nice rig Fullspeed. Pretty blue press, 9k in primers, two kegs of your favorite powders (one for rifle and one for pistol), a swager, life is good

I've recently moved over to the other side of the counter and I have a better understanding of this phenomenon than I did before. Most CA gun stores end up with jacked up ammo prices because that's what they have to pay to the distributors, who also are raising their prices. The other day we had a distributor wanting $9 for a 20 round box for .223 ammo and it seemed like a complete joke. The margin on everything is whittled down by a middleman.

Best bet is try to find cheap shipping from an outfit like SGammo that gets good deals on the ammo themselves (due to their volume most likely).

Anyways, I agree that reloading is the best way to go. Working on that one myself...

                            Amen!

I have about 30k primers with the powder to match so I am not going to be sweating the election craze. If I can't find lead then I will get another hobby......casting, since my uncle has about a few tons of lead to cast.

I don't really shoot that much so reloading wont work for me economically, and I doubt my wife will let me dedicate a part of the garage to build a reload station lol
