    Pulled some bullets today.

Had 15 rounds of 1956 POF (Pakistani Ordinance Factory) .303 rounds that were corrosive. Figured I'd pull the bullets & dump the powder on the lawn. I figured wrong.. There wasn't gun powder in the cases!

    So I pulled the bullet.
Dug out a little cardboard plug. Tipped the case upside down & nothing came out!
Dug around w/ a dental pick & got this.

    Dug some more..

    Never saw cordite before!

    15 cases worth.

CalGuns Law...Had to kill it with fire!

Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

I thought it was the primers there are corrosive, not the powder.

Primers are probably corrosive and the MK1 cordite was hard on barrels too. Here is a link to cordite: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cordite

How far we have come, at least in the US, with so many powders available.

I did a study on gun powder one fine day for a book. Found out that the entire Spanish American War was fought with naval artillery that was being upgraded to use smokeless powder. Not all ships had been converted, so the navy fought the war with brown prismatic powder, a form of black powder where the charcoal was toasted to a brown color making it more resistant to moisture. All the powder used in the Pacific, including the Battle of Manila Bay, was fought with brown prismatic powder made at the California Powder Works in Santa Cruz, California. http://www.santacruzpl.org/history/articles/11/

Why do I mention this? I'm bored, it's Sunday.

I posted a pic in the OT, asking "What the heck is that?" Toby & mosinnagant9130 came up w/ the answer! I was expecting to sprinkle some gunpowder on my lawn & out comes this stuff! Now we're all a bit wiser!

First time I saw cordite I thought it was pasta. A ex-coworker of mine collected SMLE rifles and have several crates of ammo that uses cordite.
