Hey all. Im just starting to reload 40 s&w. And after reading other posts I seem to be left with more questions than answers. Im going to be running it through a stock gen 4 glock 22. Some folks would lead me to believe that reloading brass fired from a glock reloaded for a glock is similar to sticking hand grenades im my chamber/ playing Russian roulette. I have already resized 1k mixed "glocked" and non glocked brass using a Lee 3 piece die set. My brass is measuring .415, .416 down the case mouth and body of the brass. The area near the case head is at .420 give or take .001. So i guess my question is " are these case dimensions acceptable? Do i need the redding grx push through die? " I reload on an old Lyman turret press. Im just a tad concerned with all the stuff i have seen on Glock kbs from reloading and such. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Reloading 40 S&W for Glock

Just load a dummy and see if it chambers, if it will feed you are GTG.
If reloading for a 40S&W in a Glock were a dangerous proposition, these threads would be pretty empty. When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones." -
If your G22 doesn't cause the 'Glock bulge' you got nothing to worry about. It's the over-sized chambers that causes problem I believe. Just don't shoot lead bullets extensively w/o thorough cleaning and don't load to the max pressure. both rules apply to ammo for any gun in my book.GCC

I reload for my glock 22 I do use the lee factory crimp die. and use the brass until I loose them or the case split. I want to say as long you are not over charging you should be OK
I load my ammo on the low side 180grn bullet with 4.7 of unique
and i have even taken down to 3.4grns feels like a .22Comment

Never had any chambering issues in my 23. I run the el-cheapo lee dies. They seem to eliminate any bulge all by them selves. I load plated 180's over 6.0 grains of power pistol and a WSP primer. It's got some oomph and I've yet to explode.sigpicOriginally posted by Dr. ElkyIf your a man who wears white sunglasses, your probably a douche bagOriginally posted by CSACANNONEERI've been know to cross dress and go the other way at certain events.Comment

I load for my G23 ALL THE TIME. I never had a problem EVER. I use hornady dies for my 40SW and run them through a progressive press. You can test if you will have chambering problems by sizing the brass first and then dropping it into the chamber. Move the brass around in the chamber and you should feel it move about .001-.002". You'll be fine.
Btw, I load 5.2gr titegroup under a 150grn Hornady XTP.Comment

Get the GRx die or the bulge buster. They iron those bulges out nicely.I use a GRx on my range pickups and they seem to eliminate any bulge. I shoot an XD, but much of the brass I pick up is slightly glocked. Even if the bulge is not to the degree of being dangerous, it has improved my loading and I get fewer non-chamberable rounds at the end of the day.
Then get yourself a Wilson (or any other reputable brand) SAAMI gage, and run your reloads through it. If they fit in there, there shouldn't be a lick of trouble with feeding or firing in your Glock. Running them through before my GRx die using range brass, i'd get about 3-4 out of 100 that would have a small issue chambering in the Wilson gage. After, I get one in 500 if that.
Would most of those have chambered in my gun anyway? almost certainly. But isn't it worth a little extra time and prep to make things as tidy as possible when working with guns?
And of course, for any gun, keep an eye on reloaded brass for signs of imminent problems, and discard the iffy ones.Last edited by Briancnelson; 04-17-2012, 2:41 PM.sigpicComment
