Question about this lee press...

I'm just starting to get into reloading. Slowly going to piece together everything I need. I picked up this press off Craigslist, but I'm a bit confused.

Is that little section on the right side of the press (with the aluminum plate attached) supposed to be the primer catcher? If so, am I supposed to take out those two screws and that aluminum plate every time I want to empty it? Or is there a piece I'm missing?

That's correct. What I did was make a little cardboard box and fitted inside. That way I only needed to lift the box out.

That's a great idea. Thanks! The guy I bought it from said he used a shop vac. I like the cardboard box idea better.

My Lee press came with an aluminum sheetmetal plate, a hole and a rubber tube . I have it routed to an empty powder jug taped to the loading bench.

Hmmm, I might play around with the tube idea too.

My Lee Breech loader has the same thing. The aluminum is a deflector. I attached the hose (it came with a hose) to a 1-liter Coca-Cola bottle. I drilled a hole through the bottle cap, and screwed the cap back on. It's small enough that it dangles off the floor and the hose-bottle cap is snug (you can duct tape it) enough it doesn't come off. I just unscrew the cap, and pour out the bottle when it's partially full.

Presses just like yours have been used to load countless rounds of really good ammo, so good choice. You should get a lot of years out of that press.
