    Prob a stupid question but.....

What's the diff between 7.62X51 (AKA 7.62 Nato) and a .308 win if any?

No difference they are interchangable. If you do not know the answer then the question is never stupid.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

.308 has a slightly shorter chamber.

.308 is rated for higher pressure. (62,000 PSI for .308 versus 58,000 for 7.62x51 NATO)

You can shoot 7.62x51 ammo in a .308 rifle.

You should not shoot commercial .308 in a 7.62x51mm rifle because it may exceed the pressure rating of the chamber.
