I usually pour a few pinches in a pile and light it up outdoors.

But yes, anytime you mix two powders or even if you think you did......go burn them.

experiment...a pinch on top of ants, other insects, small green toy soldiers...have some fun.

Blended powder loads have been going on since there were two different powders around , then there are duplex loads . Since there is no printed data from the manufacture of either powder on such a blend you are in unknown territory . when you have a wildcat cartridge you can start with data from a similar case capacity cartridge and bore size . with blended powders its just a guess . It may be possible to develop a load but its not worth the risk in my book . I just did a lot of typing to say dump it on the lawn.

I believe a Calgunner was killed doing this a few years ago. I would dump it on the the law or some other safe way of getting rid of it.

I didn't waste time .....I lit the entire 6+ pounds off with a blackpowder trail fuse....damn near blinded me it was so bright.

What am I missing here? How do you manage to mix powders up? Further, how is it apparently quite common?

One thing that I do is to use blue painters tape with the powder type and charge written on on a piece of tape. Tape with information goes on the powder measure. Example:
W-231
4.9 grains
