Problems with Hornady LnL AP...

Well today my dies finally came in and was very excited to start reloading. Had everything set up per intructions and had issues from the get go. My shell plate is not lining up. Off by a hair. I have to manually adjust it with each round. I will be calling hornady tomorrow to see what the issue is. Figured I'd ask you guys to maybe get it fixed before I call. I checked everything and made sure it's all clean and lubed. I crank the first shell to deprime and when it gets to station 2 it's off a little so the primer will not seat properly til i adjust it. You guys have any clue to what the deal is with this machine. Thanks in advance.

don't have an answer for you, but I can say from experience that Hornady CS is fast and happy to help. If you do have to contact them, they'll take care of you. I had some problems with my LnL classic press, with missing parts. They arrived in the mail 2 days later. Good luck!

you need to adjust the paws slightly. If you look at where the handle is connected at the bottom of the press there are two adjustable paws. One indexes the stations when the handle is pulled down, the other when the handle is pressed up.

I just checked, the up stroke is what indexes the shell plate into the primer station. That means you'll need to adjust the left paw slightly (the left paw is for adjusting the up stroke). Use an allen wrench a VERY SLIGHTLY loosen the left paw. this will cause the paw to be extended slightly which should be enough to get the shellplate to click into proper position.

Piece of cake. Mine did the same thing. Adjust the indexing pawl out a bit until the shell plate clicks over all the way. Look at the pawls to tell which one is in too far. If its on the down stroke, extend the pawl that advances the rotary portion underneath first, if it's on the up stroke that it isn't going far enough, adjust the other pawl out. Use an allen wrench, you'll probably only need a 1/2 turn or so.

Just went thru this same problem. I backed off the left pawl a quarter turn and that was enough.

Look in the manual, near the back. It talks about the pawl adjustment that everyone here has mentioned. I had to adjust mine also. The worst problem I've had, though, was poor priming reliability... I tried all sorts of things to fix it. Now it works the vast majority of time, but I honestly can't remember what out of all the things I tried ultimately fixed it. Oh well, good luck!

I had the same problem and the dvd they sent with the press went over it. Once the pawls were adjusted and the shell plate locked into position correctly everything was smooth as butter.

You guys were right. Adjusted the paws and works good now . I just got frustrated and didn't even think about the manual our going back and watching the DVD. Decided to go to bed and that's when I figured I'd post my question. Thanks everyone. Now that its working I do like the press. Seems to be a good quality machine. Now I can't wait to try out my first batch of reloads this Thursday. Hopefully it works!

I also had a smiliar problem, but the plate was off by a hair on the downstroke so it wouldnt primer right. Theres 2 pawls, one adjusts the movement on the upstroke and one adjusts the downstroke.

Just make sure you adjust the upstroke in TINY increments and you should be fine. Its a super quick fix

Also, a light dab of grease is required underneath the shell plate to help it move freely between stations.
