    Dillon progressive set up.

I've been using a RCBS rockchucker for awhile now and am wanting something a bit faster for my m1a. I'm considering getting a dillon 550 but I'm wondering what all I need to get started to load .308 with a dillon press since stuff is proprietary for the most part. I've got a tumbler and all just to get rolling with a dillon press. Thanks fellas!

If you a already have everything to load it on a single stage all you'll need is the 550 and the caliber conversion.

The 550 doesnt use proprietary dies, regular dies will work. You will need a caliber conversion kit for each new caliber though. You must shoot alot of .308

A lot of 5.56,.308,.45,and 9MM. More so interested in loading more for .309 and .45.

          I love my 550B and I think it is perfect for my handgun loading (9mm, .357, .40, 10mm, .44RM, .45ACP).

The way I do rifle brass, I really don't think there is much to be gained with a progressive (unless you use one of those power trimmers). For me, batch processing with a hand primer and a single stage press is just as fast.

The 308 and the 45 ACP use the same shell plate all you need are the powder through dies fror each caliber.

Unless you have a Giraud or the Dillon power trimmer, you probably won't save a ton of time. Bottleneck rifle case prep is the majority of the work.
