How much is the 500 brick of Remington Thunderbolts going for at Walmart? Turners has them for 14.98; I'm wondering how good a deal that is.

I think the real question is what's your time and gas worth? If you're only buying a brick or two, it's probably not worth going somewhere else. Also, last time I was at Walmart, I didn't see Thunderbolt there. They did have some sort of Federal for about $10/550.

And the federal is much better ammo. The thunderbolt is dirty and very inconsistent. The walmart value pack is about the best deal going right now.

the thunderbolts are TERRIBLE ammo. like others said it's dirty, shoots like crap and misfires frequently. normally my guns eat all sorts of cheap 22s like candy but just hate the thunderbolts. only with it I have FTEs, FTFs, etc.

I loved the Remington Peters 22 rounds, they seemed to stop making them. That was one of the best bulk ammo I ever used.

wow, just goes to show you. i love the remington thunderbolts. while i will concede that they may be a little dirty (but what .22 ammo isn't?), i find them accurate and reliable in a wide range of firearms: 10/22, single six, MKII, nylon66, high standard, etc..

i loved them and they came in a box that actually looked like a brick

walmart has thunderbol for over $15

back in the day i used to get it at kmart (kamrt seemed to have the thunderbolt and win dynapoint

walmart always has the remington golden hp and federal bulk coppered hp

the thunderbolt is great since its a good solid bullet helps feeding issues in my 22 luger of course i get about a dud every 50 (dud means i tried to fire it on the opposite side of the rim from the last pinmark i often get a couple that when i rotate and re-hit they go off

Pay attention to what people here are telling you. If the ammo is working for you then that's good and you should keep using it. Just remember, all of the people that are giving you their opinion are doing so to try to help you. Most of their opinions are based on many years of experience and many tens of thousands of rounds being shot. 250 rounds without issues isn't a large enough sampling to have reached a definate conclusion.

I have some guns that love one ammo that won't run in another gun. Funny thing is the reverse is also true. Ideally, you can find the holy grail, an ammo that works in all your guns, is acurate and cheap!

This is true. I bought 10 bricks of thunderbolts a few years back before I knew any better. I've been shooting them through an old colt officers model match as its the only gun that works OK with them. After about 200 rounds, accuracy goes to heck, and I have to shoot some copper plated stuff to get the lead out of the barrel.

I had ejection issues on my 10/22 with the Thunderbolts. The case would rupture and get stuck in the chamber. I haven't had that issue with any other ammo so far.

I';d say buy a few boxes, not a brick, of each ammo to test it.

My thunderbolts run perfect in my DPMS .22 AR. In fact they are the only ammo that runs perfect.

So I picked up a few thousand.

I have also used them flawlessly in my P22 but recently, in both my P22s oddly, the ammo is fouling the barrel leaving lead in it and basically making it look like a sewer pipe, its a pain to get that lead out. I switched to Remington gold tipped stuff at WalMart for my P-22s to get rid of that problem, only now I get gold/copper flakes everywhere.

luckily, .22 is one of the few calibers you can just buy a brick of ammo to try out. which is exactly what i recommend you do: buy a brick of a particular ammo, run it through your guns, and keep trying new ammo until you find the one your gun likes the best...

for some strange reason, my Henry Survival Rifle loves thunderbolts. The S&W 22a not so much...
