    Can I recycle primers

When I take the grandkids to the range they pick up the .22 brass as something to do and this has resulted in a gallon can about 2/3 full. I have been throwing brass which can not be reloaded into another can and plan on taking it to recycle also. Can I include the spent primers in the material to recycle? Also any recommendations on recyclers in the SF/Bay Area. With the price of gas it may not be worth the effort to recycle but then again it might buy .22's for a visit to the range for the grandkids.

Thanks in advance for any information.

.22 brass is a swaged jacket waiting to be born.
...but their exists also in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to attempt to lower the powerful to their own level, and reduces men to prefer equality in slavery to inequality with freedom.

I keep a 5 gal bucket under my reloading bench. The spent primers from my progressive press automatically dump there. I throw any bad cases there and while at the range I sweap up all the brass around me including the 22LR and anything I don't reload goes in the bucket too.

I agree with a small amount it doesn't make sense to drive to far to recycle it. I do drive past one near my house and can drop it there while I am heading to work anyways. I let my wife save the cans and keep that money, but the brass money goes back into my ammo fund.

Where's the best place to recycle brass and primers in the Bay Area?
Some guys like their powder like their women, hot, cheap, dirty, that would be TiteGroup. -CocoBolo

I've seen some Russian primers that have steel anvils. It was in the steel case 45 ACP ammo I believe. Just thought I'd mention it.

Not sure you can or would de-prime steel cased russian ammo for reloading or recycling?

I was amazed to finally find a place that would take my 3 (5) gallon buckets of un-reloadable brass just this past month. While I was there I saw several ziplock bags full of spent primers and asked if they recycled those as well. Turns out they do and I have been saving them ever since.

I wish I would have never thrown away the tens of thousands used primers like I use to do in the past.
