Ruptured .223 primer at the range today

While breaking in and sighting a couple of uppers today, I had one FTFire that was pretty unusual - the base of the cartridge was blackened, so I stuck it away until I could get a look at it later.

The primer ruptured and blew out the side, without igniting the powder at all. I'm assuming if I pull the bullet I'll find there's no primer hole in the brass.

I thought I read a post on this recently, but can't remember where. Here's some pics. The ammo was some I bought a year or so ago and am getting to the bottom of.

The lot number on all the boxes I shot today was U121 (I updated the pic with this). I bought it from Outdoor Marksman in April 2005 (500 rounds shipped for $105!). I've got one more box from this lot and one from another lot.

It's never been great ammo, which is why I still have some left. Sounds like it's one to avoid from here out!

Mine didn't jam up at all like the rifle in the other thread. After giving it 10 seconds, I worked the charging handle, and it popped right out. This was in a CMMG chrome-lined upper.

I can't belive you folks did that with a live round in the chamber. Three men, this sounds like a hold my beer and watch this.

If this happens again for what ever reason. Take the rifle by the forearm grab the charging handle, pull and thump the butt of the stock on the ground. This will work everytime it is also useful with any other autoloader that this happens to.
