    6.5 Grendel questions

Ok, I need advice from the 6.5 Grendel guru's.
First is there a good source for 6.5 grendel brass?
second, Why is there some brass that has small primers and large primers? is there a better one to keep?

Lapua brass, often marketed under Alexander Arms brand, has small primers as well as Hornady, I believe; Prvi Partizan (Wolf) has large primers. I only use Lapua so I do not know if the large primers are better or not. Have not used the Hornady brass in 6.5, but in .338LM Lapua is vastly superior to Hornady.

Alexander Arms usually has good brass prices:

    which is cheaper than Midway:

The Lapua brass from AA directly is the generally regarded as the best quality/price. Some of us also neck down 7.62x39 and fireform it to 6.5G for cheaper brass you don't feel like you need to crawl around in the grass trying to find. The small primer small flash hole is supposed to be more consistent but I personally have not seen much difference. However the Lapua and Hornady (small) hold more powder than the Wolf or blown out 7.62x39(large) so you can get a little more speed out of them before you hit the 50k pressure ceiling. If you have not already check out www.65grendel.com/forum for more info.

I bought a bunch of AA brass but I noticed the price went up a bit so now the Hornady is a little less than AA by the hundred. Either are good quality. Lapua is best but you pay a premium for it.

Thmpr was getting around 20 re-loads out of Lapua, if my memory serves me. I doubt you'll get that out of Hornady, so Lapua still may be cheaper.

              that's terrible.

Brand new brass: 60 cents a pop.
Loaded prvi grendel: 70 cents a pop.

Doesn't look to make any sense to me to buy brass.

OK if you want plinking ammo, but afterwards I don't think the brass will last as long as Lapua.

I bet the math will say that buying twice as much prvi brass assuming half the lifetime (I doubt it'll be half) is still more financially gainful.

I don't know about YOUR experience, but on a GOOD day my non-precision bolt rifle will do cloverleafs with 7mm bullets at 100 yards using prvi brass. 1.25" groups on command.

In other words, for those of us not competing (except against our friends and ourselves), I'm sure their brass will run just fine for MUCH better results than just plinking.

It does come down to individual experience. My experience with Prvi in 5.56 factory ammo was not as good as yours with the 7mm. It was hot and inconsistant, hence plinking ammo to me. I have two reloads on their brass now, time will tell how long it'll last.
