i wasnt sure to put this ad on commercial sale or reload section but since im a beginner who is super interested in getting into the field im pretty sure here is where it is going to do the most good since i myself found myself coming back to this section alot when i was doing research. theres a great deal on a progessive lee 3 stage press (lee 1000 progressive) for $154.99 at midwayusa.com! the kit seems to be missing a few items like the balance scale and the brass tools but it comes with the necessities like a brass feeding tube, dies, and a primer feeding thing. i was going to buy a digital scale anyways so missing those little things to drive down the price is awesome. the kits with the .45 dies and 9mm dies are in out of stock and is in back order but the kit with the .38/.357 dies are ready to be shipped. im planning on getting that since i was gonna reload mainly .357 and .45 and i can get the .45 dies at a later date. http://www.midwayusa.com/Product/351...ess-kit-45-acp u guys think its a good deal? im actually pretty stoked to finally get the ball rolling after months of debating and to find it at a reasonable price to boot!

Good advice that.
On the scale, I know a cheap digital scale seems like a no brainer and there are no end of people that will tell you they have one that works great, but if you are going to be loading handgun on a Lee press (using their Auto Disk system), the powder drop is so reliable you will only need to be checking the weight once when you start a batch and once when you have finished a batch. For this, and to know you have the exact right weight I would tell you to get a balance beam scale. An RCBS 505 or a Dillon Eliminator will last you a lifetime and you will have the peace of mind your scale works great, each and every time. When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones."Comment

I'm not sure on LEE customer service but I know RCBS and Dillon both have a reputation for great service.
I've had a shell plate holder break when I was moving my press to a different house called RCBS told them what happened and they sent out a new one Free including shipping. Bushings, decapping pins you name it if breaks they take care of you no hassle and parts that wareout they usually sent 2 or 3 so you have them on hand.Comment

thanks guys i just took the plunge i just bought it off midwayusa for $174.73 out the door rdy to be shipped to my house. all the sites mentioned are great sites but are out of stock and it seems like they dont know when their going to get restocked due to a lot of ppl getting into reloading, not surprised why lol. i lucked out the .38spl/.357mag press kit was still in stock and i can expect it to arrive in a week and a half. talking about guarantees and stuff midwayusa has always been a reputable place to shop so i've heard and its hard to not buy from a chap like larry potterfield.Comment

Remember to get the case collator as well! It's something like $12, and you'll be very glad that you did as you fill those case feeder tubes with it.
However, since you've bought the Pro 1000, then as a frequent user of it, I have a few suggestions for you. These are things I've learned in well over 30,000 rounds of using them.
1.) Don't start right off with the Pro 1000 or any other progressive press. Pick up a cheapie single-stage press and a hand-priming tool to learn on, and really learn what each stage does. Learn what you're doing. You can use the same dies that came with your Pro 1000. Look for "Lee Reloader Press Kit" on MidwayUSA's site. Doing this may, and probably will, save you from a squib load or double-charge someday.
I would recommend this one.
When you do go progressive, the single-stage will not go to waste on your bench any more than it has on my bench. I still use the heck out of that little press for various tasks.
2.) Go slowly at first. Take your time. Seriously. It took me 4 or 5 hours to do my first box. The speed will come with time.
3.) Read a lot before you even think about reloading your first round. Study those reloading books. Don't just read them--study them.
4.) When you do move to the Pro 1000, preferably after 500-1,000 rounds of single-stage experience, do one round at a time. Don't just jump whole-hog into fully progressive mode. Treat it like a turret, one round at a time, until you learn the press.

You're being incredibly kind, it's not kinda, it truly does suck. I tried to find how much a 4 hole turret for an LCT cost. Tried 4 or 5 times to find where it was listed; no luck.
You got to wonder how, why, the owner of that site would buy such a horror. Doesn't he look at other sites that have reloading equipment and how fast or easy it is to use? You don't have to reinvent the wheel, just copy. Rant off.Comment

Stuff like this gave nepotism a bad name.....You seem to have some inside info, why don't you send them an email about how much money they're losing because of the web design? He's got decent prices, you just can't find what you want. Coming from the outside, they might consider getting someone that has a clue.Comment

Hmm...over at Lee Precision, John Lee's daughter Stephanie does their Web site. Didn't know the same was true at Factory Sales. Looks like FS basically copied Lee's Web site design, though...again."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"
