Problems with hornady

I'm sure there are more guys here more experienced opinion here than me, but, they sure look ok to fire to me. I'd put the shorter ones in the mag and dry cycle to be sure they're feeding ok. -
What powder and how much?
You would probably have to be running well past +P levels for .009" to make a difference.
As far as what to do, I would contact Hornaday and see if they will replace them (hopefully more than 1:1 to cover your trouble). If they will, maybe pull them and get some that meet their normally excellent standards. I shoot a fair amount of their XTP's and love the consistency, some of my most accurate loads are with Hornaday bullets. When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones."Comment

it isn't +p, +p with this powder starts at 8.1 grains
I was going to try to contact Hornady, I figure the word they can say is no.I will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.Comment

I would definitely weigh & measure a few bad bullets. Different weights have been known to occasionally end up where they shouldn't.
Numbers will also help when contacting Horny..."He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

According to Alliant's web site, 7.4grs is max with a minimum of 1.2" OAL, so you are a lot longer than minimum OAL and well below max loads, should be GTG. On the inconsistency, I would definitely call Hornaday on it, they will take care of you. When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones."Comment

I started this load at 6.9 grains and it was a cannon. 7.4 is really hot.
I will call hornady tomorrow and let everyone know what they sayLast edited by M27; 03-21-2012, 8:35 PM.I will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.Comment

Yeah, PP will throw a big fireball ball when loaded hot.
I have some 10mm loaded up real stout using Bluedot. Plan to touch those off tomorrow, my fireball is bigger than yours! Ha!

I am not sure about pistol dies, I need to check mine but rifle seating dies never touch the point of the bullet, they grab in a circular pattern around the ogive. Look real close at the bullets you seated already for a faint ring toward the nose. You could also mark one before seating with a sharpie and see where the die touches. The base of the bullet might just be exactly where it is supposed to be inside the case.Comment
