    Hi,

What is your favorite re-loading brass for the 1911 45 acp (auto)???

How do you feel about nickel plated brass?

What is your favorite 45 auto primmer?

    Many Thanks

    I load it all.

I pretty much load it all. I'll sort any unfamiliar headstamps and check on the brand's reputation. I've heard to stay away from amerc but I've never run across any. S&B on the first loading has tight primer pockets. Was more of an issue using a RCBS PRO 2000, really felt I was forcing the primers in there. Less of an issue on the dillon 650.

I like winchester for large pistol primers. Because they can also be used for magnum loads. No need to have two different types on hand.

My favorites depend on what I am loading.

My favorite to load lead is R-P. It is very consistent but thinner material, so I have fewer chambering issues with .452+ lead. I really don't like loading .451 jacketed with these same cases as I can get occasional inadequate neck tension and bullet set back. If I am going to load R-P and jacleted, I get out my Dillon sizer (sizes down a little more than my Redding Dual Ring die).

My favorite brass for .451 jacketed is any of the quality makes that use a little thicker brass. Brands like Fiocchi, PMC and CBC (Magtech) work really well.

Winchester is a solid middle of the road brand for most pistol loadings.

I save my nickel for my full power HD rounds.

I use Winchester primers for pistol (had to buy 5000 CCI last order with PV because they were out of Winchester (Olin).

Since .45 is a popular cartridge to reload, I chose to start with new Starline brass so I would know the history. I will snag range brass if I see the shooter is using new ammo and he doesn't mind if I pick it up. I don't use nickle for my .45, but I use it for my .44 mag and .357 to make it easier to ID from my .38 and .44 spcl cases. Nickle is more brittle and may crack sooner then regular brass, and I shoot .45 much more then the magnum stuff. I've only used Wolf primers, can't beat the price and I've not had any trouble with them in my unmolested Springfield 1911.

+1 on that. I like Starline brass best.

                        I'm a brass H*** so any I can find

Nickel is fine but won't last as long

as for Primers it's getting to that time where any I find will work, but have used thousands of Win and liked them, but when I did my order last week they were out so I will be using Feds after my last 500 of Win are gone.

I HATE the .45 brass with small pistol primers. That is not the way the universe should be run. Plus, it screws up my system. For brass I prefer Winchester and for primers Federal or Federal Match.

That brass is the devil, I will size 5 or so "good" brass so if I run into one I can replace it in the progressive, it is easy to feel the def. when priming
