My first .223 test group

So after much frustration with range brass and trim to lengths, I loaded up some LC brass with 21 grains H322 and fired a test group at 100 yards.

I got a 3" spread from a bench rest. That is likely about as good as I can shoot, the rifle ammo might be better than that.

I also fired a 10 shot test group with 22.5 grains and the group stretched out to 4" with more horizontal and vertical spread.

I think I have found my load to move forward with. I broke down and ordered the Dillon RT1200 trimmer to solve the problem of trimming the brass to length and am getting ready to ramp up some production. I also have a source for 1,000+ once fired LC brass so I am going to go with that first over the mixed range brass.

Can't wait to measure the spent casings and see how they fire formed to my chamber and what the trimming situation is with my own once fired brass

I use 24 grains and 3031 and it groups pretty nicely with assorted brass and 55 fmjs, pretty nice group you got there

Thanks. The group was shot all with LC brass and Montana Gold 55gr FMJ. I use a Millet 1x4 scope so for my eyes that was pretty good. I will make a small adjustment to the scope to move it to the left a few clicks and down a couple.

Also I found good results with 23.5 varget pushing 55gr Hornady out of my 18in 1/7 twist barrel.

You have better eyes than me..I prefer to use a magnified scope when trying to get better groups with my loads..

i made 5 loads for each weight of bullet when i did my work up loads, started at minimum and worked up by half a grain til i reached near max for the data i was working with.

When i went to the range the groups were noticeably smaller with one load (about 1.5" at 100yd) the rest varied between 3inches and 5 inches with one other load coming close.

I settled on 23.7g Ramshot TAC for 75grain Hornady HPBT and 24.5 grains for the cheap 55grain bullets i picked up for plinking. This out of 20" 1:7 barrel.
