    Cast bullets for .311 bore

Well, fine fellow Calgunners, I have been buying these for my 7.62x54R, 303 British, and 7.7 Jap loads. But Widener's is out and have been for a long time. Any other sources you know about. Montana Bullet Works makes a gas check bullet but they are $22/100. Using the ones from Wideners and install my own gas check I'm in for less than $.10 per bullet. No comments needed, yes, I'm cheap!

cast your own? I started casting for my 308 a few months back and have had great luck with the lee 2 cavity mold. It drops a 170gr gas checked bullet at .310 that Im loading with 10.5gr of trail boss and getting around moa groups at 100 yards. About as good as I could have hoped for bullets that are costing me around $25 per k. They are meant for gas checks but are working just fine without and are not leading the barrel.

Get a Lyman 311413 gas check bullet. Easy to cast and size/lube and shoots well. Feeds well too since it is a spitzer bullet.

That is not being cheap -- It is just good sense!
Try the castboolit website for a seller of a boolit to meet your needs.
If you want to cast your own, lee and lyman plus others have suitable moulds. Lee being the least expensive may be a good start. A lee mould, sizer, and a lube method can be obtained for about $50 new.

Lee's got a couple of moulds designed by Ed Harris that drop 0.312" boolits. Might be worth a look.

              Roll your own

I have looked into casting. Where are you folks getting your casting alloy? If I look at the price for casting alloy from Midway, it is going to cost more for the lead, than I am currently paying for bullets. California is a lead free state as far as wheel weights so that is out. Are you mixing your own alloy? If so where do you get the lead, tin, and antimony?

There are several vendors on Cast Boolets that sell ingots for $1 a pound shipped...
                I buy from "The Captain".

Not to mention a local vendor selling several alloys for a better price than Midway.. San Leandro is home to Rotometals.com and they offer free shipping on specific sized orders..

Loads of sellers of tin, lead, and various alloys like wheel weights & linotype.

Range lead (harvested from berms) is about $1/lb shipped.

holy crap, those bullets though out of stock are $1.40 per pound. Sans the cast boolits website, it's hard to find ANY lead at that price these days!
