    Ammo Questions

Please bare with me, I have a couple of ammo questions I was hoping someone could help me with.

So far, this is pretty much what I have put through my guns:

    XD9:
Federal 9mm Luger 115 grain FMJ RN
Remmington UMC 9mm Luger 115 grain MC
    Winchester 9mm Luger 115 grain
Hornady 9mm Luger 115 grain FTX Critical Defense
Some Blazer 9mm Luger 115 grain

    AR15:
    Remington UMC .223 55 grain
PMC Bronze FMJ 9mm Luger 55 grain

Okay, now, I am looking to buy some ammo in bulk online for the first time. I am going to buy 500 for each gun. My main purpose for these guns is range shooting at different distances and home defense. I want to buy some ammo that would serve both purposes well. I don't want cheap ammo, but I also don't want super expensive stuff. So far, I have been pleased with the Remington UMC and the PMC Bronze.

I was thinking about buying some 9mm and .223 PMC Bronze, but was wondering if these are good options for my two purposes? Are these good prices?

PMC Bronze FMJ 9mm Luger 115 grain (box 50) $10.49
PMC Bronze FMJ .223 55 grain (box of 20) $6.19

I have not shot any 5.56 from my AR, or any at all for that matter, is there a big difference over the .223 that I should consider for my needs? What about different grains from what I have been shooting? Remember, I don't want any super cheap ammo and I can't shoot steel cased ammo at my range. What am I going to notice in a change in grain in the .223/5.56?

Any info/advice would be appreciated, thanks!!

I typically shoot Blazer Brass 9mm 115g when I buy it. However I shoot a 124g round that I reload. For Home defense i would get some JHP. I like the Federal HST LE rounds (either 124g or 147g depending on the gun) and the Remington Golden Saber 147g. Buy a few boxes find what you like. If I have to defend myself or family, I'd rather have spent a few more bucks on more reliable ammo then those that doesn't have as high of quality control.

I'm not going to use my AR for home defense so i'm not sure whats good there. But i do like the pmc 55g ammo and Federal.

Yeah, my least concern here is the home defense, as I have some Hornady critical defense for that, so the HD is just a second use that it might be used for in a SHTF scenario. I just want something with a good price that is good for the range, but would be okay if I had to grab for SHTF defense.

buy whatever works for the range...don't skimp on the HD. buy what works, and has the best reputation. IMO in 223, anything will work for HD, if that is what you use. personally, i wouldn't use it, unless i lived on a ranch, or something like that. handgun, or shotgun for home.
That may be a CG first!
