    458 lott reloading ?

If anyone else here reloads 458 lott, I am hoping you can help answer this question.
I am reloading both 350g and 500g using Hornady bullets .458 in diameter.

After setting the bullet, the case bulges a little around the bullet almost as if the bullet is slightly oversized. Factory loads dont show this. The bullets fire normally, except the case used for the 500g will get a slight split near the upper section.

Does anyone else get this bulge or have the case split with 500g?

    thx

It's not uncommon to get a bullet bulge in straight wall cases but it should never split. Check that your resizing die is not adjusted down too much. Back it out 1/4 turn at a time until fired cases will not slide easily into the chamber and then screw it in 1/4 turn.

      I don't have 458 lott experience but,

the bulge is fine as long as it is consistent all the way around

      the splitting shouldn't happen though

how many has the brass been reloaded?

might the brass be on the thicker side?

have you measured the bullets to make sure they are exactly .458

I have no experience with annealing so this is a question for other members. Can a straight wall case be annealed? Or would annealing help?
I will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.

Another confirmation that visual bulge is normal for straight wall cases. Also confirmation they shouldn't split!

Thx guys. It just something I'd never seen before with my other reloads. Brass had only been reloaded 3x. Just odd that ALL the 500g brass split. Im sure everything was set up right. Dang 458 brass is dang expensive. I never thought about annealing them.
