45 acp question 230gr. XTP load data

Just put a Sig P220 in jail. Standard 4.4" barrel. I have a box or two of 230 gr. XTP's and was looking to make some hottish to hot loads for it. I have W231 and Blue Dot that would apply here. I've had fine luck with 6 grains of 231 and 185 grain XTP's, but it seems like it isn't a great powder for near max loads and high weight bullets. I have Blue Dot that I haven't really messed with yet in this application, but seems it would lend itself to near max loads. Anyone with any experience with these combos? Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jonah

As you have observed W231 is on the fast side for a 230gr bullet. I have not loaded Blue Dot for .45ACP, I do have some BD coming from PV, but this will be earmarked to try on my new 10mm gun.

I just shot some hot 230gr XTP loads this morning out of my G21SF and a 1911. I use VV-N340 for these loads and was shooting 6.8gr. These are over book max for those who might show an interest and should only be approached with caution. I have clocked these very near 1000fps out of my 5"ers.

If you decide to try working up a hot load with the BD, keep us posted on the results.

Blue Dot can work for a 230gr XTP, but you REALLY have to hot rod it. It's really too slow for the 45ACP. I think the slowest powder I would try in 45 is Longshot. For an upper end 230gr load, I'd suggest Power Pistol or WSF. I really like WSF in 9mm, 40 and even in light loaded 10mm. You might even consider AutoComp or HS-6.

I've used a lot of BD in 10mm & 9x25 Dillon, but Longshot has proven to be a better powder for me. It meters better than BD, and achieves higher velocities at lower pressures. Longshot absolutely screams in my 9x25 Dillon loads too.

Sorry, I guess that doesn't answer your question. What velocity are you trying to reach?

I use factory ammo for HD. Basically, the idea is to get similar velocity (upper 800's seems to be about the norm) and recoil pattern as HD ammo for practice so I'm not spending $1+ per round to practice. I've heard good things about power pistol. Maybe I'll pick up a pound. Just have too many powders on the bench I hardly use as it is.

          Another vote for Pistol Powder
I will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.

Longshot and 180g XTP's turned some heads at my last range session last week with my Glock 29! Great powder.

When you get around to loading or buying in bulk, check out Zero bullets. I just bought 2k 230gr JHP's @ $135 per k. Roze Dist and Shooters Connection are the 2 distributors I buy from. Roze Dist may how them out of stock, but whenever I call, they have them. Precision Delta is another good choice, but FMJ is the only option. Montana Gold is another option, but they run around $20 more per k regardless of quantity.
