Cleaning Brass Primer Out...??

I just tumble then resize, then load. The pockets will be fine. If you are concerned(anal) about them you can clean them with a tool after resizing. It does a better job anyway.

Same here. Never had any "dirty primer pocket" issues.

is it normal for 100% of all .223 bases to get media stuck inside? it was a pain going through them all, but it was only about 50.

I think it depends on the size of the media. I'm using small enough media that they only get stuck in a few cases. When I used Lyman crushed walnut instead of pet store crushed walnut, more of it got stuck in the primer pockets. The Lyman stuff has slightly larger pieces of walnut.

I've tumble pistol brass after i have deprimed and it was a major hasle getting the corn cob media out of the primer pockets. Especially in small pistol primer pockets.I would say I had 99%of the pockets jammed.If you are starting with a single stage press save yourself the grief and tumble it before you deprime.

If you decide to deprime before sizing, I would recommend using a universal decapping die like others have said. That way you're not putting dirty brass through your sizing dies getting 'em all gunked.

I got a Lee decapping die and it does the trick.

Deprime / resize
Tumble with crushed walnut from petco with Nufinish - this is very fine media so it wont get stuck in primer pockets.

tumble first. depriming cleans out the flash hole for me, saves me a step.

OK, so this sounds crazy but for now it is what I do for my accuracy reloading. Plinking reloading, I go the regular tumble, then deprime and reload.

For the accuracy stuff: media tumble, lube cases, deprime, resize, clean primer pockets, prep necks, ultrasonic clean and then dry them up. The brass looks beautiful at this stage ready for relaoding...
