    Check the Hornady website. I use 24 gr of 4064 w/ a 55.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

Look up data from the powder manufacturer. Should be able to find hornady (or comparable 55 gr.) bullets on their table.

You mentioned Speer manual, which # manual do you have? I have #13 and the following powders you mentioned are listed for the 55 gr. fmj:

                748 min. 26gr. max. 28gr. compressed

                Varget min. 25gr. max. 27gr.

                H322 min. 22.5gr. max. 24.5gr.

I guess I'm a little over paranoid the fmj in the speed Manuel are boat tails. And the fmj I have are hollow base. I just wanted to be safe working this load up.

                    Win748 Min 22.7G-2,800FPS-Max 26.4G-3,200FPS

55 is 55... I use the data for 55 whether they be spire point, fmj, fmj-bt, flat base or slight hollow base... Start with starting load, work up as needed..

For many years I have used 27grs of Win748 in mil brass. In commercial brass I use 27.5 to 28grs. I tried 28.5 but it did not group in my rifle. Win748 out preformed others powders with a 55 gr bullet. For squirrels I prefer Hornady 55gr SX bullets but have used others.

27gr of 748 over any 55gr bullet is my plinking load for my ARs and even an older model 110 Savage Heavy barrel rifle for years.

To my knowledge hornadys 55gr FMJ is a FMJ-BT, looks kinda like the m193 projectile with the cannelure in a different place. Pretty much the most accurate 55gr FMJ out there.

I don't think they make a hollow base, what you're seeing is the end of the jacket and the exposed lead. Hodgdon online lists the data for their powders and that specific bullet. Varget is going to be a bit slow for such a light bullet, it's better suited for 69s and heavier, though you may find pretty good accuracy with it. Look at powders more like H335 and TAC for those lighter bullets
