Reloading info needed for Blaser 300 Win Mag Please!

I want to use my Blaser bolt action 300 Win Mag rifle more than ever now that I have reloading equipment ready to go. The price of commercial 300 Win mag is just too high. This gun is so good that I love to shoot it all the time but the cost of the rounds is too high hence will be reloading it now!

This will be for the Blaser fired rounds only (I have about 100 brass shells fired in that rifle). I need your collective wisdom for the following:

what grain bullets to use for 200 yrds for now ( will be doing 600 yrds this summer). I already have some 308 caliber Hornady A- max bullets at 175, 190 and 208 grains. I believe they should work.

    what powder?

What primer, if it makes a difference

What dies to buy? (I have the Hornady LNL AP press). FL dies needed?

what should the OAL of the round be?

The brass shells I have are mostly Winchester and PP.

thanks in advance for your constructive help....

I have 3 300 win mags and a 300 RUM.I use a lot of Sierra GK 180 and 200 gr bullets.Nosler Balisstic Tips are good also.Hornadys also. All 4 prefer boat tails.Powder I use is Reloader 22,H1000.I have used Retumbo in the RUM and like it.It gets along with the others just fine though.I use FL dies due to the chambers being different and some folks have a heart attack over mixing the brass between rifles. It works for me with sub 5/8" groups at 100yds.I also have a small base die for a autoloader,I use to own.You could use a neck die loading for only one gun.Primers,I use Winchester magnum.I hope you have a trimmer, because you are going to need it for the 300 stuff. The max OAL is listed in reload books,I hope you have one.Online reload data, oal, max case length, etc is available free from powder manufacturers, but you should really have a book.I like the Speer, and Sierra reload manuals.I am sure Hornady makes a good one also.I will PM my phone number. You are welcome to call.

Cool, thx. I ordered the Hornady and Hodgdon manuals. I only have the one 300 WM, so neck sizer only? Should I spend the money on a competition type micrometer die set since this is my favorite gun or on a Lee's dies are good?

With the .300 win I would shoot heavier bullets like the 208 A Max or Berger 210 VLD or 215 hybrid.

For 200-300 yrds, will the 168-190 grain A-max bullets be OK? I have some Varget and I want to use it while I wait for the H1000 to arrive in a few weeks.
BTW, where is the best mail order place to buy powder? (Midway has some good prices) but will shop any where that is cheaper...

              Dies?

I see a lot of option for dies but I do not know which one to get. I will need a neck sizer only and would like to crimp the bullets but ever so lightly. Any recommendation on a high quality dies set?

Why do you want to crimp the necks?

Since I am new to this, please tell me why I should not crimp the neck. I have to think it is better not to crimp to save the brass, lessen the losses of the bullets flying out and to keep the bullet aligned when being made, but I do not know for sure. Although I fear that while transporting said bullets the length may change if these bullets get bumped...hence I wanted to crimp them the slightest amount...I await to be edumicated (educated!)

It's better to use neck bushing to set up the proper neck tension to hold the bullet because it will be more consistent than crimping. Consistency is the key to precision.

Of course work you way up by downloading 10% and work you way up. I use Redding type S bushing die and Redding Competition seating die.

Cool, I just looked at those dies at Midway. But I was not able to locate the proper S bushing, does it come with the set or one has to buy it? if so, what size? does the bushing size depend on my rifle fire formed brass?

You would have to buy the bushing separately, I would recommend the titanium nitride bushings. Size would depend on the case you're loading and your desired neck tension. Maybe start off with a couple at .334, .335. and .336
