Tried something new

SO normally when load rifle, I do it in several stages.
1. Tumble and Clean
2. Lube/ De prime/ re-size
3. Trim if needed
4. Tumble and clean again

Then i would run it through the press Prime, charge etc.

today I figured I would try something new.
I had a bunch of once fired .223 that I wanted to reload, that had already been tumbled and cleaned. (from my experience once fired doesn't need trimming)

So I threw a handful in a zip lock freezer bag with a few squirts of my homemade lube Shook.
then put them into the 550.
I made 25 of them they all look great and I just wiped the little excess lube off.

depending on how these work out this might be a more regular occurrence...

How are you lubing the case mouth?

Expect dented shoulders if you're just throwing them in a bag and coating the entire case with lube. Shouldn't be a big deal if it's just blasting ammo. You shouldn't just neglect trimming once fired; it should be measured and trimmed to spec/below spec as needed. Skipping steps is asking for trouble, IMO. Especially so if you're firing these reloads from a gas operated rifle where you can't feel the resistance on chambering, like you would in a bolt gun.

I tried to get cute with the spray on Frankford lube(from Midway) a while back...changed back to a pad and sizing wax.

Works great for 25 but no way I would wipe down 1000 by hand. Coating the whole case is not the problem its excessive lube that causes dented shoulder.

True, once fired may not need to be trimmed but unless you are measuring each case then you are inviting Murphy.
