Holy Cow! Is this for real?

I just got on to the Alliant reloading section to see what there was to see. In .357, they list the normal 2400 and Unique loads, but they also list a 300-MP powder that is SIGNIFICANTLY (like 300-500 fps!) faster (bullet speed, not burning rate) than the 2400. It's SO fast I am a bit leery of it, but it's that way across all the .357s. The .44s are ONLY 200 fps faster, but still - does anybody have any real world experience with this seemingly wonderful powder? It sounds WAY too good to be true.

If the powder is slow enough and the barrel is long enough, I think you could get a refrigerator past transonic.

I asked this very same question only a few weeks ago and did not get anyone with first hand experience. There are powders from other manufacturers that have the same performance...I think someone mentioned H110? Wont get those speeds from a short barrel, but still, its pretty amazing.

I don't get why faster is "too good to be true". Are you shooting timed events or, are you loading for consistancy?

Because anybody can load slow. It's the apparent quantum leap in the velocity compared to other powders that intrigues me. I shoot a single-action revolver and lever-action rifle, so speed is not my interest. I shoot H110 almost exclusively when I want a high performance load, and if I have more options (and dare I say better?) then I am all ears, so to speak.

I like velocity too, when i want low recoil ill shoot 9mm. For my magnum loads i want it to pack a punch, the bigger the better

Alliants website says 1687 fps with a 158 grn Jacketed bullet, not revolutionary when compared to H110 but thats still 100 fps faster. Imagine what these loads will do out of a long barrelled lever gun.
