I cannot seem to find exactly what comes with the Hornady Lock-N-Load AP press and what else I need for the press besides dies, I'm guessing I need to order the shellplate separately, Is there anything else I need or should order to go with the press?

You need dies and a shellplate for each caliber you reload. Also a PTX expander.
The other things you should already have like calipers, scale etc etc.
Added extras that I would get are extra bushings, primer pickup tubes and a primer flip tray.Comment

Absolute minimum requirements:- Primer flipper tray
- Hornady One Shot Dry Gun Lube (not the case lube) or degreaser and dry lube, especially for the powder measure parts. All metal parts of the powder measure and powder drop inside and out.
- Grease gun with zerk fittings to lube the press through the zerk fittings. Spray lube is not enough.

Most are repeats but here is what I suggest. You may have several of these items, like the dies, if you are currently reloading.
1. Primer Flip Tray.
2. Hornady One Shot Gun Cleaner & Dry Lube
3. Harbor Freight Grease Gun
4. Shell Plates. Most every caliber will require a different one.
5. Caliber Specific Dies.
6. RCBS Lockout Die. (I like it better than a powder check because I don't have to look at it each time, it will lock the press up on an over/under charge.
7. Powder Through Expander (Different one per caliber like shell plates, keeps a station open so you can use a factory crimp and lockout die)
8. Extra primer pick up tubes. (Makes it nice to have a couple hundred primers ready to go.)
9. Scale. (Hornady & Frankford Arsenal each make a digital for about $40)
10.Calipers
11.Extra LnL bushings (makes it nice but certainly not a necessity)

Don't forget to clean all the oil from the powder measure when it shows up.
And maybe a lock out or charge indicator die.Comment

O.K., I already have a Lee 4 die set that comes with a carbide full length sizing die with decapping unit, powder through expanding die (used for expanding and belling the case mouth while charging the case with powder), a bullet seating die, and Lee's exclusive carbide Factory Crimp Die for both .40 and 9mm. Do I still need to get a PTX expander ? And will the Lee powder through expander die work with the Hornady Case activated powder drop ?.._...|..\__________________,_

The Hornady case activated powder drop is all in one no die needed at all. Just put your powder through expander after the sizer die. Then Hornady case activated charger then bullet seater.Comment

No, you shoud not need to get a PTX expander. The powder measure that comes with the press will have all the items you need to load the pistol calibers you have. Words of caution to you, follow the directions on the Hornady dvd that comes with the press, especially the part about cleaning the dies and the powder measure. Also be aware that the measure is shipped with the rifle metering insert installed, you'll have to change it out for the pistol metering insert. The information on the dvd is also available on YouTube from Hornady, so you can look at them before the equipment comes.
The Lee powder through die will not work with the Hornady measure, and you will just not use this Lee die in the LNL since it will come with the powder feed die as mentioned above. When changing from 40 to 9mm, all you'll have to do is screw in or out the powder measure in the bushing so that the case activated metering insert goes full travel for the case you're loading. I've found it's about 2.5 turns different between 9mm and 45ACP.Comment

So stage 1 is going to be my sizing die with decapping unit, next is the powder through expanding die, then the Hornady case activated charger and then the bullet seating die, Right?
Also I'll be reloading 9mm .40 and .45, no riles rounds for now, do I even need my Factory Crimp Die or would I be better off using a powder cop after theHornady case activated charger and using the final spot for the bullet seating die?Last edited by bonzaiii; 02-24-2012, 9:31 PM..._...|..\__________________,_

I would rather have the powder cop die. I never crimp any of my ammo.Comment

Get a taper crimp die from either Dillon or Redding for each caliber, use the bullet seater just to seat the bullet, last station, the crimp die.So stage 1 is going to be my sizing die with decapping unit, next is the powder through expanding die, then the Hornady case activated charger and then the bullet seating die, Right?
