Lee Classic Turret Press

Anyone know if this is any good. I'm trying to get into reloading, and I'm a newbie.

Any advice on reloading powders, dies, instruction references, etc that I should use? I'm going to be reloading .45ACP and .223rem for now, and eventually some 30 cal (I'm still debating on a caliber for my next rifle).

plenty of threads here on it. not sure you'll find too many people telling you NOT to buy it. it is considered both reliable, and affordable.

The LCT is, IMHO, the best value for the dollar and a great trade off between single stage and progressive.

Remove the indexing rod and you have a manual or single stage press for total control. Run it with the index rod and you have the ability to produce at a greater (don't want to say faster necessarily, but you would be quicker than a single stage press, but not nearly as fast as on a progressive). Best of both worlds in one very well built (over built actually) press.

I just picked up the press, not in a kit, for about $100.00 delivered. I was going to buy a single stage Redding but this will work fine for my current needs and the price cant be beat. Being built in the USA is a big deal too, for me. Kits are usually great to get started since it's all there, but I wanted to opt for my own choice of powder scale, etc. One thing that I suggest is to include the cost for a couple of decent reloading manuals in your budget. I picked up the Lyman, then the Sierra 6th edition and when I find a local copy of the Lee manual I'll grab that.

Also, the primer arms that came with mine were the same size (Large rifle). That's a shipping/packing error but I did not notice right away. Not an issue for me, but noteable.

I bought the same kit a few years ago and I am very happy with it. You can load large bottleneck rifle cases with it but I chose to add a single stage press to the bench just for rifle loading, so I keep the turret set up for pistol cases.

I got one and am very happy with it. I use it for pistol and rifle reloading, definitely nice to have two turrets set up for two different calibers and never have to screw your dies in or out... When I purchased my classic turret press, about two years ago, I was looking at the cabelas "kit" and when I added up the prices for the items included in the Cabelas kit it was cheaper to buy the same items separately from midway. You might also consider comparing prices at grafs, especially since their shipping is $4.95

If I could have only one press, the LCT would be it. It handles rifle rounds and handgun rounds with aplomb. Not sure how people are getting 200 rounds/hour on one--must be something I'm missing--but I comfortably get about 120/hour on mine with my .45 Colt "Magnum" load.

Cartridge changes take, at worst, a minute and a half, and it's only that long if you need to switch primer sizes. It's also relatively inexpensive. Basically, it's the cost of the set of dies and another $12 turret.

There's a little bit of a trick to setting up and operating the Safety Primer that was designed for it. But once you get the trick down, you just do it and things just work smoothly.

I tried a speed load once and got 50 rounds out in 13 minutes, but I had no problems slow me down what so ever and was sweating when I was done. I usually go at a nice pace and get 50 rounds done in about 20 minutes.

Lee has excellent customer service. When a part breaks down, they will send you replacement, no q's ask.

P.S. if you get the lee case trimmer and chamfer/deburring tool you should try mounting the lock stud in a power drill. I mount the power drill upside down in a vise and things go much faster than they would by hand. Keep it on low speed and wear glasses so you do not get brass shavings in your eyeballs, or, if you are new maybe do it by hand until you get comfortable. I also stick the lee primer pocket cleaner in a drill.
