    First .45 Loads question

    Visually does this look correct?
The dimensions are correct. If feels that there is to much space around the mouth and bullet.
Crimp is the other worry I have. The die instructions said to back the die off three full turns after having the ram touch the bottom. then to put a crimp turn it in slightly. How do you measure the crimp? Noob questions I know but I've only reloaded for my bolt action this will be the first Semi-auto. Thanks for your imput.

Larger picture would help, use the blade portion of your calipers and measure the brass diameter just below the bullet and report back.

Can you press it against the bench without seating the bullet farther? Does it chamber properly in your barrel?

Chamber check will have to wait until Tuesday. No movement when pushing against the bench. With bullet loaded it measures .472.

Set your dies to flare the mouth just enough to keep from shaving the edge of the bullet as you seat it. Then adjust your crimper to just size it back to "straight up and down", basicly, remove the flare you put in it.

What dies are you using? You should be able to feel the die touch the top of the case and then any more will crimp the desired amount.

Looks fine. Lots of folks don't crimp .45 ACP. FWIW, I crimp mine to .469. Haven't had any issues.

I too crimp to .469"-.470", but for jacketed and RN, just making the case straight (taking the belling out) is usually fine.

Sounds like you've removed the bell and restored the brass below max SAAMI spec of .474", and you have good tension on the bullet. As long as it drops in the chamber OK you should be good.
